Born without knowledge of who his parents were, Ryu was raised by a man named Gouken, who began teaching him martial arts rooted in Shotokan at a young age, Ken Masters soon joining him in combat. Ken became very close with Ryu after training with him for so long, so close they became like brothers.
Soon enough, both Ryu and Ken left the dojo to begin their Musha Shugyo (warrior's quest or pilgrimage).
Ryu entered countless tournaments, winning all of them until he fought a man name Sagat in the finals. Sagat would've won if it weren't for the Satsui no Hado, due to this power of corruption, Ryu struck Sagat with an unexpected Metsu Shoryuken and took the cheap win.
After the first World Warrior Tournament, Ryu went to seek out his Master for an answer to this power. Only to find him and a strange man fighting, this man ended up taking the life of Master Gouken. This man's name? Was Gouki, better known as Akuma, the Supreme Ruler of the Fist.
Ryu searches the Multiverse looking for powerful opponents, waiting for the day to finally challenge, and defeat Akuma for what he did to his Master. To this day, the Satsui no Hado continues to grow within, becoming more of a concern for Ryu.

Transformations
Denjinn Renki: Ryu enters a temporary state that which allows him to amplify his techniques with electricity.
Satsui no Hado: A corrupting force Ryu was born with, it's tempting and addictive nature make it difficult to resist. Ryu's reasons for avoiding the Satsui include not wanting sacrifice his humanity.
Rikudo Osatsu: Ryu uses the Satsui to its fullest extent.
Avatar of Sargeras: A temporary state that which Ryu was put in via Sargeras' corruption during the events of #MVLegion.
Mu no Ken: The antithesis to the Satsui, Ryu has yet to fully tap into such a form.
Ken Essence: Ryu learned to tap into Ken's ki flow during the events of Marvel vs Capcom 1. Commonly referred to as Mode Change, or Complete Change. Ryu decided to call this the Ken Essence, as it captures the heated and radiant ki flow of Ken Masters.
